HELLO ALL. 2/20/10

The pizza oven is crankin out a superior product, the special monday pre fixe dinners are the coolest game in town, the wi-fi is speedy fast fios, the kitchen is damn clean, Chef E's friday specials have that colorful accent,  and I always have plenty to say, so come on in to Reds right now or I'm gonna shoot this puppy!

MISSION

Rhode Island Reds is a produce market café, which sells delicious wholesome food and drink, with an emphasis on locally produced, fair trade, gourmet, and organic products, in a comfortable, artistic atmosphere, inexpensively priced. The produce stand and food shop also acts as the pantry for the café, thereby encouraging diners to purchase items they’ve enjoyed in their meals as well as food shoppers to sample the fruits, vegetables, and groceries, prepared in the kitchen and bakery.

VISION

In addition to a thriving Bakery, Café, Green grocer, and Garden Specialty Shop, Reds is envisioned as a place for local residents to gather for entertainment, artistic, and community events; a place to enjoy in the cozy dining room/ art gallery / performance venue, both fine food and arts programming. Children and family events and specials are featured.

VALUES

Half the whole idea of Reds is to supply myself and family an adequate income and life style which is more pleasant, full, and creative than what employers have been able to provide me with thus far. To be my own boss, own the shop and run it as I see fit, having grown it up from my own idea is the only penance which can erase the shame of years of disgruntled whining servitude to others.

Maximum profit however is not the Resion 'Detra.

The philosophy of this grand venture cannot yet be distilled to a concise thesis statement, but must continue to evolve throughout the life of this business. The following guiding principles though have to be a part of Rhode Island Reds future no matter how it may be described in the years to come.

Values (1)

FAIRNESS:

Attempting to take un-fair advantage of employees or patrons I believe will cause a sound business to fail, as will selling useless crap or shoddy services. No cheating, stealing or usury of any kind. Although it involves money it need not harm people. Hopefully this is possible. I’d like to always be able to say,” I’m proud of this or that.”

Values (2)

BALANCE:

Over-toiling, extreme stress, poor health, hopelessness… One leads to another. Why start a business for all that.? If it takes 80 angry hours a week then I’m doing it wrong. Therefore:

Limits, rest, recreation, re-evaluation, change. I need a place I want to spend time at and a system that allows me to get away .

Values (3)

RESPONSIBILITY:

Minimal waste. A small foot print. Environmental sensitivity. Recycling. Organic products and practices. Locally produced items Save the planet. Be good to your mother. Teach my children through example how to use things properly and how to be properly useful.

Values (4)

STATUS:

To execute ones own good idea toward success is a noble undertaking which when appreciated by others silences complaining and kills regret.
